Patient FAQs

Getting Started & general understanding

What is nutrigenomics and how does it work?

Nutrigenomics is the science of how genes interact with nutrients you consume — and how that interaction affects health. By analyzing your DNA and microbiome, we uncover how your body processes food, detoxifies, responds to inflammation and regulates key systems like hormones, metabolism and immunity. This knowledge forms the foundation of a personalized nutrition and lifestyle plan designed to prevent or manage disease.

How is Dr. Molander’s practice different from other wellness clinics or dieticians?

Most wellness clinics focus on generalized advice: “eat less sugar,” “exercise more,” “take this supplement.” Dr. Molander applies medical-grade genetic and microbiome testing to identify what your body actually needs — and what it doesn’t. She brings clinical training, functional medicine insights and years of experience to every plan. You won’t find guesswork or fads here — just evidence-based care, tailored to your biology.

Is this functional medicine or integrative medicine?

Our approach overlaps with both. Like functional medicine, Dr. Molander addresses root causes of disease rather than only symptoms. Like integrative medicine, we combine conventional medical science with nutritional, genetic and lifestyle-based strategies. Uniquely, Dr. Molander’s focus is on nutrigenomics — using your DNA and microbiome as the blueprint for targeted healing and prevention.

What can I expect from working with Dr. Molander?

Expect a personalized experience. Dr. Molander begins by listening — taking time to understand your health story, goals and challenges. She then guides you through testing and designs a care plan grounded in your unique biology. Communication doesn’t end after one appointment. Our year-long members provide access to ongoing check-ins, messaging, and support throughout the year.

How is this different from doing a DNA test like 23andMe?

Consumer DNA tests like 23andMe offer entertainment-level insights — ancestry, genetic traits, and broad health markers. Dr. Molander uses clinical-grade testing focused specifically on health outcomes and nutritional pathways. You don’t only get data — you get a doctor who knows how to interpret it and turn it into an actionable plan tailored to you.

Is this a medical service or a wellness service?

This is a physician-led medical service that incorporates advanced nutrition science and personalized lab testing. Unlike spa-style wellness programs or coaching apps, Dr. Molander provides real, evidence-based care — grounded in clinical practice and tailored to help prevent or manage serious conditions like cardiovascular disease, autoimmune issues, hormonal imbalance and more.

Will I be working with a real doctor?

Yes — your care will be personally led by Dr. Diana Molander, a licensed medical doctor (MD) with advanced training in nutrigenomics, microbiome science and integrative nutrition. She graduated in medicine and postgraduate specialization in functional medicine. She defended the only dissertation work in the Balkans to date on the topic: 3D bioprinting of colorectal carcinoma - immunobiological aspects. 2024. Dr. Molander obtained a degree of Doctor in the professional field - Medicine, doctoral program - Immunology.

She lectures in the specialty of Nutrigenomics and Dietetics at the Medical University of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. She co-authored "Guide and exam tests" for students of nutrigenomics.

Unlike many programs relying on dieticians, coaches or algorithm-driven reports, Dr. Molander, and her company NouriGene, is a physician-guided medical practice. That means your health concerns are evaluated by a doctor who can interpret complex lab data, understand medical history, manage chronic conditions and connect the dots between symptoms and root causes.

Dr. Molander combines conventional medical experience with expertise in functional medicine and systems biology, giving you a level of clinical care rarely found in typical wellness programs.

If you're navigating chronic illness, medication use, autoimmune conditions, fertility planning, or metabolic risk — it's essential to work with someone who not only understands DNA and nutrition, but also the full medical picture.

Consultations & plans

What’s included in the Initial Consultation?

The best starting point is a single, first consultation. This is a two-part process totaling 120 minutes. This consultation is ideal for new patients and anyone seeking a clear, evidence-based path forward.

Part 1 includes a deep dive into your health history, analysis of your lab test data and, if needed, additional genetic and/or microbiome testing. We do this to generate fact-based recommendations.

Part 2 covers delivery of your customized nutrition and lifestyle treatment plan. We may also discuss additional lab test results, if needed.

Do I have to purchase a wellness package to work with Dr. Molander?

No. You may book a one-time Initial Consultation or Follow-Up Visit without a Package. However, Packages provide better access, pricing benefits and long-term support — especially if you are managing chronic or complex health issues.

What kind of wellness plan will I receive?

You’ll receive a personalized nutrition and lifestyle plan designed by Dr. Molander based on your medical history, genetic markers, microbiome profile and lab results. The goal is to support healing by addressing the root causes of imbalance — not only managing symptoms.

Will I be told what to eat? Is this a strict diet?

No. You won’t be handed a one-size-fits-all diet. Nor do we focus on what not to eat. Instead, Dr. Molander provides tailored nutritional recommendations aligning with your genetic and microbiome profile — so you can make sustainable food and supplement choices for long-term health.

Testing & diagnostics

What kinds of tests do you offer?

We offer a range of advanced testing including:

  • Genetic (DNA) testing to understand how your genes influence metabolism, inflammation, detoxification, nutrient needs and more.

  • Microbiome testing to analyze the diversity and function of your gut bacteria.

  • Functional lab tests (e.g., blood panels, hormone levels, nutrient status) when needed to guide personalized recommendations.

  • All tests are evidence-based and tailored to your health goals.

Do I need to give a blood, stool or saliva sample?

It depends on the test.

  • DNA tests typically require a simple saliva swab.

  • Microbiome tests involve a small stool sample done at home.

  • Functional labs may require blood samples, which can be arranged locally.

You’ll receive clear instructions for every test, and our team will help you decide which are most appropriate for your care.

How do the DNA and microbiome tests work?

We work with leading clinical laboratories — including Genica (Bulgaria), Re:Gena (Bulgaria), Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory (USA) and Gene Metrics (UK). These labs provide high-quality, medically validated DNA and microbiome tests.

DNA testing is typically done via a painless saliva or cheek swab. The sample is sent to the lab for analysis of gene variants influencing how your body processes nutrients, detoxifies, manages inflammation, regulates hormones and more. The results help Dr. Molander design a nutrition and supplement strategy fitting your unique genetic profile.

Microbiome testing involves a home stool sample to analyze your gut bacteria. We examine the diversity, balance and function of your microbiome — as well as markers of inflammation, digestive efficiency and gut barrier health. These insights help guide food and lifestyle interventions that restore gut health and support your immune system.

All test kits are provided with clear instructions. Dr. Molander personally interprets the results to build your personalized care plan. Testing is non-invasive, can be done at home and is available to both local and international patients.

Can I do the testing from home, or do I need to visit your clinic?

Most testing can be completed from the comfort of your home. We ship test kits directly to you with step-by-step instructions. If bloodwork is needed, we’ll help you find a lab or provider near you to draw the sample. We work with patients across Europe, the UK, Middle East and the U.S. Our international kits are designed for easy sample return and remote consultation.

How do I ship my samples? Is it safe?

Every kit includes pre-labeled packaging and detailed return instructions. We use specialized partners to ensure your biological samples are stored and transported safely and in compliance with health regulations.

How long does it take to get my test results?

Most DNA and microbiome test results are ready within 3 to 4 weeks after the lab receives your sample. We’ll notify you when your results are available and schedule a follow-up visit to review everything in detail.

Will I be able to view my raw genetic data?

Yes. You’ll receive a patient-friendly report with clear insights and explanations — and if desired, we can also provide raw data for your own records or for use with other providers.

How accurate are these tests?

We use clinically validated testing partners with strong reputations in the field of functional medicine and nutrigenomics. These are not recreational “wellness” tests — they are used in evidence-based care to inform real medical decisions.

Can I use test results I already have from another provider?

Yes. If you've completed a DNA, microbiome, or lab test elsewhere, we’re happy to review them during your consultation — as long as they meet medical-quality standards. We’ll let you know whether any new testing is needed to complete your profile.

Can I do testing if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes — most of the DNA and microbiome tests we use are non-invasive and safe to complete during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Genetic testing is based on a simple saliva or cheek swab and microbiome analysis uses a stool sample — neither poses any risk to you or your baby.
That said, certain functional lab tests or supplement protocols may be postponed or modified depending on your stage of pregnancy or postpartum status. Dr. Molander will guide you on what’s appropriate and beneficial based on your current health goals and timeline. In many cases, starting with testing during this period can help set the foundation for a smoother recovery or a more informed fertility plan later.

Medical care & safety

Can I consult with Dr. Molander alongside my existing doctor or treatment plan?

Yes — and in many cases, we encourage it. Consultations and health memberships with Dr. Molander are designed to complement, not replace, your existing medical care. Dr. Molander regularly works with patients who are under the care of primary care physicians, specialists, or fertility clinics.

Our role is to provide precision nutrition and root-cause insight based on your DNA, microbiome and lab results — insights that often fall outside the scope of conventional care. We’ll never ask you to stop a treatment plan unless there’s a medically valid reason to modify it, and we’re happy to coordinate with your other providers when appropriate.

Is this safe if I’m already taking medication?

Yes. All recommendations are made by Dr. Diana Molander, a licensed medical doctor, who takes your current medications, diagnoses and lab results into full consideration before making any changes to your nutrition, supplements, or lifestyle plan.

We do not use one-size-fits-all protocols or generic supplement stacks. Everything is personalized to you — and safety is always the first priority. If there’s any risk of interaction between a supplement and your medication, we’ll either adjust your plan or consult with your existing healthcare provider.

Many of our patients are already taking medications for conditions like high blood pressure, thyroid dysfunction, autoimmune disease, depression, or fertility. Our goal is to work alongside your existing treatment.

Do you work with children or elderly patients?

Yes. Dr. Molander works with patients of all ages, including children, adolescents, adults and older individuals. However, the approach is always personalized based on the patient’s stage of life, medical needs, and goals.

For children, we may focus on gut health, immunity, neurodevelopment, allergies, or skin conditions — with extra care given to food sensitivities and supplement dosing.

For elderly patients, the focus is often on preserving energy, cognitive health, cardiovascular support, and managing chronic inflammation or metabolic decline. Every plan is age-appropriate, evidence-based, and medically reviewed — and we always involve parents or caregivers when minors are involved in care.

Can Dr. Molander replace my GP or specialist?

No — our practice is not a replacement for your general practitioner, emergency care, or disease-specific specialist. We provide a different kind of care: personalized, systems-based guidance focused on prevention, nutritional biochemistry, and whole-body optimization.

That said, many patients find Dr. Molander fills the critical gap between general medicine and true individualized care — helping them finally connect the dots between persistent symptoms and root causes.

Can you share my lab results with my other doctor/GP?

Yes. Upon request, we can provide you with a summary of your results or a full copy of your lab reports to share with your physician or specialist. Many of our patients find that sharing these insights helps their other providers better understand their overall health picture.

We also welcome collaboration when appropriate — especially when managing chronic illness, fertility treatments, autoimmune disorders, or complex medication plans.

Wellness packages

What’s included in a Wellness Package?

Each Package includes a fixed number of 60-minute online consultations with Dr. Diana Molander, priority access to appointments, and guaranteed appointments. You’re not only pre-booking visits — you’re securing year-round support from a dedicated physician who understands your health profile deeply.

What Package options are offered?

We offer three Package tiers:

  • Individual Plan: 5 consultations per year for one person.
  • Family of 2 Plan: 8 consultations per year shared between two named individuals (e.g., parent + child, or couple).
  • Family of 3 Plan: 12 consultations per year shared among three named family members.

All plans include the same benefits — the only difference is how many people are covered and how many sessions are included. If you’re on a Family of 2 or Family of 3 plan, your pool of visits can be used flexibly among the named participants. For example, in a Family of 2 plan, one person could use five sessions and the other three — or split them evenly. Dr. Molander tracks usage and coordinate care across family members.

Yes — we offer Family of 2 and Family of 3 Packages. Consultations can be shared among enrolled family members (e.g., spouse, child or parent), allowing your family to benefit from the same personalized, DNA-guided care.

Do Packages include tests or just consultations?

Packages include consultations only. Any recommended genetic, microbiome, or lab testing is billed separately. However, a Package gives you priority access to review and lab result interpretation services.

What happens if I don’t use all my Package visits??

Unused sessions do not roll over to the following year. Packages are designed to encourage proactive care — not reactive appointments. If you're unsure about your level of commitment, we also offer pay-as-you-go consultations.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my Package?

Yes. If you start with an Individual Plan and later wish to include your partner or a child, you can upgrade to a Family Package. Just contact our team for assistance.

However, buying through Dr. Molander (NouiGene Ltd.) ensures you're getting formulations matching your genetic and microbiome profile — with physician-led guidance on dosing, timing and interactions.

Are supplements included in Wellness Packages?

Supplements are not included but the doctor recommends trusted sources as part of your personalized plan.

What if I have a reaction to a supplement?

If you experience any side effects or sensitivities, stop taking the supplement and contact Dr. Molander immediately. We’ll assess the situation and modify your protocol as needed. Your safety is our first priority.
